BONE DEGENERATION

BONE DEGENERATION

I have been told i have bone degenaration and that it was caused with smoking. I have had lots of deep pocket treatment, cleaned as directed and have stopped smoking over a year ago but the problem still continues. I am just getting to the point now that i am having to make the decision of DENTURES! im mortified as i used to have such nice teeth!.
Can you please tell me if it is only smoking that causes this or any thing else as i remember being told that it is very rare of sombody of my age (31 when diagnosed, now 33)and that this happens to and is more common in the elderly.
The dentisit has explained what has/is happening to my gums/teeth           but im sure there must be more to it than just smoking as i was told that they would be ok if i stoped smoking but there not!
I would appreciate all info you can give me on this subject thanks.

I don't know what you're periodontal condition is without examining you and seeing x-rays.  There are many factors involved in periodontal health (the health of the gums and the supporting bone), one of which is smoking.  If your condition has progressed to a point where you might have to remove teeth at your young age, it sounds like there were other factors.  In my opinion, you should look into dental  implants as opposed to dentures.

I did enquire about implants but my dentist said that there was hardly any bone for the implants to hold on to unless of course i have, i think it was bone grafts or some thing like that which of course only cost around 17,000 to 20k which i just havent got plus it sounds hidiously painfull!
MY teeth have driffeted terribly, and now have major gaps there are massive pockets i have recurring infections its just misrable.
and after reading some of the comments about having dentures fitted  life sounds like it's going to be a right bunddle of pleasentrys 8(

i wish there was a real toothfairy that fixed teeth!!!!
