Can Bacterial infection affect quality of life without any threat to life?

The link between dental infections and the rest of the body are a current hot topic of research.  Infections in the mouth can easily spread through the rest of the body and can become life threatening very quickly.  
Interestingly, the American Heart Association is starting to highly recommend having dental treatment for this very reason.
