Bad odor from tooth but no toothache or sinus headache

by annwrightvt, Nov 16, 2006 12:00AM
Starting this fall I've had a more than normal amount of mucus in my sinuses, and thick. I thought it was allergies. At least a month ago I had a head cold (which appeared about 2 mo. after I first noticed what I thought was an "allergy" issue). I thought that maybe my sinuses would get back to normal when my cold went away, but I still have thick mucus and bad breath. Recently I've noticed that the odor is coming from a spot behind my upper right molar. I discovered this running my tongue over my teeth. That spot "feels"  different to my tongue, not rough, but metallic-like. My taste buds are picking up on it. There is no pain and no real discharge. As far as I can see, the tissue in the area looks normal. Any ideas what might be going on?

You might have a periodontal pocket behind that molar. I would floss every day and see if that helps and a visit to the dentist might be a good idea.

I had a tooth that a rootcanal was done on & it just never took well (thought it was ok for about a year. Well I couldn't floss btw where the tooth was bc it hurt so bad, I went to the dentist & had tons of xrays done over a 4 yr time period. Then at a reg. cleaning app. the woman checked my gum line & the tool she used I guess poked at some infection that was unseen, had no ideal til about 3 days later my jaw swelled & finally stuff came out of my gum. Well the dentist thought it had to be a gum issue well I gave it 4mo & nothing helped so I went to an oral sur. & was going to get it pulled but they took 8 xrays that day & never found anything wrong w/ that tooth but I wasn't leaving bc I knew something was wrong, well he said he'd look & if it couub be saved he'd send me to another specialist. Once he got in there, there was a huge hole way up high in the tooth so no xray could see it. Since it's been pulled all is well. Good Luck

I realize u said u have no pain, but has that tooth had a rootcanal? I didn't have any sinus problems but I had even had my eyes checked bc one of em got to hurting, come to find out it was the tooth causing the pain since everything is so closely connected.

Thanks for the warning about a periodontal pocket. I DO floss daily, and I had my dental check-up in September, but they didn't take x-rays this year (had them last year).

I don't have any root canals.
