Bone graft

Bone graft

I had a 3 tooth bridge, one of the anchor teeth craced in 2 and the bridge had to be removed and the tooth extracted.  I choose to have dental implants for the 2 teeth missing.  Since one of the teeth had been missing over 20 yrs, the oral surgeon did a bone graft.  Now after 5 months, and an infection in the gum, and was on antibiotics over 2 months, I am ready for the implant surgery.  My problem is swelling in the area of the bone graft.  It has a lump where the graft was placed.  My jawline is slightly swollen on that side.  I am concerned about the difigurement, and still have some aching.  Is this normal after a graft to have a lump, it feels like overgrown bone, not gum swelling.

Your current condition may not be a proper candidate for implant placement. Detailed consultation with your surgeon or second opinion is advised. Antibiotics will not eliminate source of infection.
