Braces before filling cavaties ?

Braces before filling cavaties ?

I have been interested in braces for the longest time. However it is only now that I have the finances to support it. When I went to see my dentist (who is also an orthodontic), he told me he can not start on the braces until I get all the cavities filled out first. I have many small cavities according to him, that needs to be taken care of before the procedure begins. From what I understand they are small right now, but nevertheless are there. However, the total estimate I got from him to fill out these in-between teeth cavities is about $4000 (for 8-9 cavities) !!

I am plan to get married by dec 2010, and was hoping the pics would turn out good if I start on my braces now (aug 2009)....however I don't have $4000 for cavities plus another $8000 for braces. Is it possible to fill out these cavities after my braces are removed, so that I can start on them as soon as possible ?

I would see another dentist.  This sounds like too much money for the fillings, and the braces.  Dentistry is a competitive market at any time, but with the economy you can do better, even if the economy were better, I'd get a second opinion.  Don't be too quick to tell them that you can actually afford any of this, they'll work with you.
