Brushing too hard?

Hey guys, I've noticed something weird about my gums. It's kind of hard to explain. Like on top of all of my teeth- near the gum line of the tooth- there's alot of bleeding and soreness. And it isn't just with a couple of teeth- ALL of my teeth are like this. My friend says that it could be because I've been brushing my teeth too hard or it could be from overbrushing, but I only brush my teeth twice a day- so it's got to be from overbrushing. So my question is: What should I do about this? Should I just stop brushing all together until my gums stop bleeding? Should I buy a softer toothbrush or an electric toothbrush?

could be from brushing too hard, try to use a soft brush and after brushing put the brissles of the brush on your gums and brush down like your combing your gums down and then on the bottom do the same but brush up. then take your finger and massage your gums to get the blood circulating. It really helps. I had a surgery on my gums and when I went to get my teeth cleaned the hygenist told me to do this after brushing and it has helped me so much.
