Bump on bottom of tongue

Bump on bottom of tongue

A bump has appeared on the underside of my tongue.  It is located on the centerline about 5/16" from the end, it is about 1/8" in diameter, it's spherical in form, white/pink in color, protrudes by about 3/32", and seems hard and almost rubbery.  There is no pain or bleeding, but it's irritating because it constantly scrapes the edges of my lower front teeth.  What is this and how critical is it to get it removed ASAP?  Who should I contact to get this removed?

You should consult an oral surgeon. I do not think it is serious but that does not mean it should be ignored. It is possible it is a salivary cyst or a blocked mucous duct.

Thank you- I had it removed and it was pretty well healed by the end of the day.  The OS sent it for a biopsy and it turned out to be a salivary gland.
