Bumps on back of tongue and throat feels congested

Hi,

For the past few days I've had some congestion in my throat. It isn't serious it feels like a have a cold coming on and I am just fighting a throat infection, but today I woke up and couphed something small up. It seemed to be a tiny piece of chicken from yesterday night. Now, I listerined, brushed and drank water since I ate this chicken so I was perplexed. To make it even more disgusting the piece of chicken smelled quite awful, if chicken is what it was. It was hard to tell. So, I went to the restroom to check it out and I see white bumps on the back of my tongue. Now, I know there are normal bumps on the tongue and they are bigger in the rear, but these are abnormal. Two are pretty large, about the size of pencil erasers and the others are just scattered and smaller. They are only in the rear. I'm thinking this is all related and hoping it is an infection that will just pass, but I need some advice. I am particularly fearful b/c I know it will take 2 weeks to get an appt. and I've already had cervical cancer lesions from HPV this year and I am worried that this could be the throat version of the same cancerous strain. I'm worried I could have been exposed to the oral HPV at the same time that I was exposed to the cervical type that turned into such a problem. Of course, I could be completely wrong. I will see a physician as I am sure you will tell me to do, but I'd really like to know if there is a high chance this is something less scary, just to ease my mind.

It does not sound serious but if you can not see your MD for two weeks then see an oral surgeon asap.
