Can Infection be detected with xray instead of removing tooth, then take out root?

They are trying to keep tooth in front of my mouth by extracting then removing the root. It got infected, after a precidure. In think an x-ray should tell that Infection is cleared, so not to remove tooth, then they would bond floating tooth tonight teeth.????????
