Canker Sore Unusual Behavior

I have had frequent canker sores for years now. They always vary in size and location from tongue (only side or bottom never top of tongue), to inner cheek, to above the Uvula, etc (only on the inside). I have tried everything from multivitamins even to change of diet and oral hygiene. Nothing seems to work.

Canker sores will appear and then heal after 1-2 weeks then another one surfaces right after that and continues in this pattern.

However, last year I noticed an unusual pattern. For some odd reason, whenever I was sick with a cold or flu-like symptoms, the canker sores would go away. Once I felt better and recovered from the cold, the canker sores return (keep in mind I DID NOT take any anti-biotic medication I only took OTC symptom relievers).

Is this an indication of something can anybody determine why this is?
or can anyone else determine causes for canker sores?

I did ask my dentist about them he basically said the factors that could cause but didn't mention diseases. What types of diseases can cause canker sores? Do these diseases only cause canker sores or do they do other damage to the body?

I'll make sure to bring it up to a physician my next visit.

Have you ever informed your dentist or physician in regards to your canker sores?  Recurring frequent canker sores can be due to another underlying disease so it would be best to see a physician to rule those out.
