Cement Coming Out

Why does the cement leak out from the dental crowns? I had my top four crowns for three years and now the cement is coming out...making them loose. What's the reasoning behind this?

Oh really? At the beginning of the year I was just starting to bite into things with my front crowns. I think it started from biting into that sub sandwich a couple of weeks ago. Oops. :-/

Well I am seeing my dentist this Wednesday and I'll have him take them out and recement them. For now I am using listerine mouthwashs since I know the teeth are more prone to tooth decay.

So...thanks for commenting! I figured it has something to do with biting.

Hi,
The material used to cement crowns in place is similar to a medical grade super glue.  Over time, and depending on which teeth and how much "hard" chewing is done, the material can develop small cracks and eventually shatter like a mirror, then become powdery.  The crown then becomes loose.

It's the reason my DH had to give up eating hard pretzels!  He sure misses them, too.

Hope this helps.
My best to you,
Gellia
