Confused??? Nerve Damage?

by shirl000, Apr 24, 2007 12:00AM
I posted before... but I think I posted about the wrong tooth.

I am having surgery under tooth number #19 (my second molarfrom the back on the bottom left)to remove a small bump in my jawbone. I am 37 years old, I've heard nerve damage is more possible the older you are. It is a little smaller than a pea and is down around where the root tip would be, but on my jawbone, not on the root tip itself. My question is, where is the nerve in relation to this area and what are my chances of having nerve damage arfter something like this?

I believe I answered this query before. The possibility of damage to the nerve is dependent upon the proximity of the apex of the tooth to the canal that contains the nerve and blood supply to the teeth on the left side. The doctor would give you a better idea how close the tooth is to the nerve by the x-ray that he has. Your age has nothing to do with the possibility of trauma to the nerve.
