Could a wisdom tooth cause a fixed absess(abscess) to become infected

Hi, about a year ago I needed a root canal on two of my back teeth in the lower left side of my jaw. When X-rays were taken the dentist told me I had an absess (abscess) but it would go away after using antibiotics and the root canals were done. Now last friday my wisdom tooth started moving in again (nothing unusual.) However Saturday morning when I woke up I had a very strong pain in my jaw but traveling from the wisdom tooth all the way down towards the front of my mouth. And on Sunday after not sleeping well my entire left cheek was swollen and my brother told me it was an infection. (He had a similiar infection and needed to have it drained.) Now is it possible that the absess (abscess) never went away even after the root canals? And is it possible that the wisdom tooth caused the absess (abscess) to inflare into an infection? And I cannot see the dentist untill tomorrow so what could I do to help the pain, swelling, and loss of sleep issues? Also what is most likely to happen at the dentist tomorrow? Thanks for any help you can supply!

Sorry for the late reply.  Its possible it may be either the root canal or an infection caused by the wisdom tooth.  If its the root canal, they would probably send you to a specialist to get it checked out and see if it needs to be done again.  If its the wisdom tooth, they may want to get it out.
