When you get  a tooth prepared for a permanent crown you are given a temp.A temp is made from a model taken of your original tooth,or exsiting crown. It make not be an exact color match however. We only have a few colors to choose from so we do our best. Most often they look pretty natural. It is not removable untill you come into have it taken off.It will be put on with temp.cement.Upon occasions the temp make come off by the cement loosening.Perhaps from sticky food,or forgetting it is there while flossing.Continue to floss however. But instead of snapping it up and down.Place up and then pull out straight at gum line. The up and down motion can sometimes catch an edge and pull it off.If it were to come off,we like to have it replaced within 24 hours to maintain the space. As teeth move quickly. Also it could be sensitive when...naked.
All labs are different.Sometimes they are done in house with a ceric machine and you leave with the permanent. If it is sent to a lab, then it will take between 1-3 weeks.May I suggest you ask your dentist if you can have a custom shade done?Teeth have slight variances in color, shading, and lines.A front tooth, you want to match. It should be a minimal 20.00, 30.00 charge. Some dentists charge zero, and welcome it.If it comes back and you do not like it,tell them they can change shapes, colors.
Your next appt will be for the seat.It is often times done without benefit of numbing.Expect to be at office for possibly 1 hour.
Hope this helps some.

depending on the material used to make your temporary crown, in the past we had a problem with people eating too many cooked carrots.  their temps actually turned orange!  crowns are amazing these days with being able to make the shade just about perfect, even duplicating spots, or stains that your virgin teeth next to it might have.  depending on the condition of your own tooth, ask about different types of material besides porceline.  glass crowns look phenomenal but dont always work for every case.  cerec machines are great for posterior teeth, but for a front tooth not the best. with a front tooth you also massage the gums with your brush and keep it very very clean.  avoiding due to soreness may cause the gums to actually rise and your permenant results not look ideal.
