Crown adjustment

Crown adjustment

My dentist recommended that I have two crowns fitted (both on bottom, second from back).

The first permanent crown has been fitted. To adjust the bite the dentist drilled down my original top molar (in addition to the crown) so that the tooth now feels rough and rounded on one side. Is this normal procedure?

The second crown is temporary. I cannot eat anything, unless very soft, on it after two weeks. An adjustment to the crown height after the first week (and Ibuprofen) alleviated the pain by about half and it seems to be very gradually feeling better. The dentist intends to place the permanent crown because he believes no root canal is necessary. Should I go ahead with it or get a second opinion?

Thanks in advance!

I remember when I got the first crown on top and my dentist filled the original tooth under it  It scared me to death and I wondered what in the world he was doing.  That was 18 years ago and it is still okay.  I guess it is normal.  That is unless we happen to go to the same dentist and I don't think that is the case, lol.
