Crown with gold inlay or without

Crown with gold inlay or without

Hello,  I just had a root canal done to #14 and was offer the choice of crown or crown with gold inlay (additional cost of $100.00).  The crown with the gold inlay comes with warranty for one year.  I would like to know which is a better medial choice for the long term.

I'm not sure what a crown with a gold inlay is.  I assume they mean a porcelain crown with gold as a metal underneath to provide support?  There is some research which states that gold reduces the growth of bacteria so that's generally why I would recommend a gold based crown.  But gold is soft so it doesn't provide as much support as a base metal crown.  Might want to ask the dentist which is best in your situation.
