Crowned tooth sensitivity/slight pain

by cat36, Sep 06, 2008 05:40PM
Yesterday I drank a cold drink and then right after that I drank a hot/warm drink.  I noticed now my crowned tooth is extremely sensitive to hot and cold or just mildly hot and cold.  It is unbearable.  Why did this happen to my crowned tooth and it this go away.  Or do I have to see my dentist again.

when did you get the crown? did you have discomfort before getting the crown? i would go back to the dentist. i could be something as simple as a bite adjustment or as complicated as needing a root canal. good luck!

I've had my crown for about a year.  But that tooth never had a crown on it.  It just had a band around it and the dentist that put the crown on wondered why my previous dentist never put a crown on right after she did a root canal.  She probably did that because I was uninsured.  But I'm still uninsured, and so far in the past year I had 2 crowns put on.  Oh Lord I'll die if I need another crown because there're close to a grand ($1,000) each.  And so far I have several fillings leaking.  Well the 2nd crown I had put on was due to a filling that was leaking and the tooth hurt.  The 2nd crown does'nt bother me.

so the tooth already had a root canal and its had the crown for awhile. there are still many things it could be. there could be a missed canal that is infected or a root fracture. i dont have insurance either and am slowly getting one tooth at a time done. the first dentist should have mentioned you needed a crown and given you the opportunity to save up for the crown instead of deciding to leave it with a band.
