Cut the inside of lip

Hi my daughter was pointing out my teeth (one yr old) and she accidentally cut/tore the thread of skin that melds the lower lip to the lower gums. The little sliver of skin that is dead in the center of the gums. This happened over a week ago and for the past five days or so it hurts considerably and is preventing me from eating or drinking normally and is now kind of white and is now accompanied by a constant pain shooting up the center of my gum to one of my prosthetic crowns. I figured over time it would heal, but so far it has not gotten any better. Any ideas? Should I see a doctor or a dentist?
