Dental Caries

About 4 weeks ago I noticed a small dark spot in between my molar and pre molar. I thought it might be dried blood, but its not I think its a dental cavity. Its fairly small and is in between the two teeth. I have never had a dental cavity before so I have read that the dentist has to fill it with a filling.

1. Is the procedure painful afterwords?? Would I be in pain or taking medications for the pain?

2. With the dental cavity in between two teeth, is it harder to treat or it should be routine?

3. Is applying a filling a long procedure? how long would it take?

4. Would the dentist have to inject a local anaestetic or just some novicane?

Hey... if you can actually SEE the decay in between the teeth, it's PROBABLY in both teeth by now.  When's the last time you've had a comprehensive exam by a dentist?  You should probably get in to a dentist to have a comprehensive exam (x-rays and all).  
#2.  the procedure doesnt' take long... MAYBE 20-30 minutes tops...   Normally no pain meds afterwards.
#3.  Applying the filling isn't a long procedure either... the whole thing takes about 20-30 minutes (that depends on how deep the decay is and sometimes procedures LOOK simple but end up a little more detailed than originally planned... that's why it's important to see x-rays to get accurate diagnosis)
#4.  yes darlin... you'd certainly need a locan anaesthetic!!  You don't wanna drill into a 'live' tooth.   Novicaine IS an local anaesthetic.  I think you meant to ask would they just use topical.  You can always request a topical be used PRIOR to the Local Anaesthetic...   They don't hurt, only a little pinch/sting for like a second, then you start go go numb and don't feel the rest of it.   you can always ask for Nitrous if you think you can't handle the injection...  chances are you can though...
