Dental Crown Problem

Hi
I recently had a root canal done after having a temporary crown put on my tooth. For a week after the root canal the tooth felt great. I then went back to my dentist to have the permanent crown put on. My initial thought was that the permanent crown was much larger than my original tooth and the temporary as well. That night I experienced pain and soreness around the tooth and couldn't chew at all on it.
I went back to my dentist and he said everything looked fine and I should give it some more time. It is now almost a week and although the soreness has subsided a bit, I can chew on it but I still feel uncomfortable with it and feel the crown is too large.
My question is this: Is it normal to experience soreness from a permanent crown when the temporay felt fine? I've had other crowns in the past and never had a problem. My dentist keeps telling me that it is fine and wants me to give it more time. Should I insist that he replace the corwn or should I take his advice and wait a little longer?

Going back to your dentist to have more occlusal adjustment is advised.

I felt some pain in #18 tooth on and off (tooth have old fillings). I would say minimal and very infrequent. I saw a dentist and he did root canal. He had a difficult time and said my root canals are very calcified? I do not know what that really means. He worked with his Dad and the senior dentist helped him and showed him how to do it since he had such difficulty. After the root canal which took 2 visits he took x rays and work some more and then x rays done again. He put temporary fillings and saw him again in 2 days for temporary crown, 3rd visit. Now 5th day after the temp crown my tooth is aching at pain level 3/10 and sensitive to cold but the gums behind the tooth he had worked on appeared to have a tear, red and has a hole because of the tear. the gums hurts and I can not use this side of my mouth to chew compared to after the root canal procedure. I felt the dentist had shaved so much. drill a lot on my tooth which is very tiring for me and I was in tears when he was doing it. He placed a temp crown which feels very rough, has tooth ache and sensitive to cold now. I am also concerned at my gums at this point because I do not know how he can fix that when it appeared torn or cut off from the procedure. I told him that if I knew that to have a root canal takes this much work  I rather have my tooth pulled out since I do not have any molar on one side ( last molar). He made a comment that that tooth is very important to save. Is that true? I have read some blogs here (thank you for info) and I decided I will have him pull the tooth out so I do not have to go through troubles like what I read here. Do you think I am making the right decision. I am short of $ and my out of pocket expenses on this is almost a thousand. I exhausted the $1500 from my insurance just for this tooth. Having some more problems with the crown down the road I do not want to have.
If you can give me an advise on my situation I really appreciate it. I never had any major probs on my teeth except today.

please start your own post so it can be addressed on an individual basis.
gm. it looks a little large in the photo but that still can work out fine. like scottma said it might just need adjusting. always feel free to return to the dentist with any issues or questions you have. thats what you are paying for!
