My husband just recently bit down on something hard and since then his crown has been bothering him. I looked at it today and it appears to be a dark line against the gum line like the crown is wopsided. It is a porcelain crown and I didn't see any cracks. I am wondering if the dentist can take that crown off, clean it and just put it back on since my husband just got this a year ago. We're kind of stuck because we can't afford another crown right now.
The line by the gumline is the metal under the porcelain. Unless the crown is loose, it probably didn't move. If it is loose, it can usually be taken off and recemented. Your dentist may or may not charge you for this. Just depends on your dentist. It usually runs less than $100. I would just give it a bit to calm down. It's probably just traumatized.
go to your dentist and get an xray. there could be a fractureFractures across a growth plate under the crown or decay under there that has undermined the crown. If the crown is loose, it is loose for a reason and a dentist will be unlikely to just cement it back on permanently. Find out what is going on under the crown by an xray.
