Dental implants and infection

I had an implant procedure done 1 1/2 years ago. Almost immediately I began having problems, bump on the gum above the tooth with discharge. This is a front tooth. The dentist said I probably got food up in the gum. He operated, created a flap and cleaned it out. To my knowledge he did not get much out. Now I have another bump on my gum. He has me back on antibiotics. I clench at night and wear a mouth guard. I had him adjust this after the last surgery and I have done better (this is the first major infection since then).  He xrays and states the implant is okay.  I brush, dental floss, use a rinse and mouthwash. I have had several peridontal surgeries in the past.  What do you think is going on?

Hello from a newbie!

Hi out there. I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I've been searching the web for info about dental implants and found this board. I've never thought about joining a board before, but after reading through some posts, I'm happy I did. I just want to say thanks to everyone for the support you offer eachother here.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hard to tell without seeing you.  You should have a periodontist experienced in implant placement take a look.  Could be the implant or it could just be the surrounding gingival tissue.

I'd be concerned, especially after going through the hassle of getting an implant, you do not want it to fail. I would get a second opinion. If it isn't an oral surgeon or a periodontist that did the implant I would ask to be referred to one of those and have it looked at.

cant tell without seeing you, but it surely sounds like you need another (unbiased) opinion. see another dentist but get a referral from a family member or friend, not your current dentist.
