Dental infection

Had root canal on crowned tooth have temporary filling seeing regular dentist in 2 weeks for perment filling. Endodontist prescribed Cipro 500mg 2 times day for a week.. Dr. said he doesn't usually precribe Cipro but did because I have have had allergic reaction or severe side effects from several antibiotics  Azitheral, Levaquin, Celfdinir & Cefphalexin. I have taken Cipro 250mg for Urinary Tract Infection. Is Cipro effective for dental infection. Can I get another infection on the same tooth?
