Dentures

I had all my upper teeth extracted 6 weeks ago, did not get dentures yet, I have 4 areas where a bone is sticking out and they are telling me that I have to have them shaved down. My questions is why do it have to be shaved down when they have not even done the mold for my dentures? Thank you for your time.

They probably need to shave them down to either

1) remove the sharp spots so that when you wear them, it won't hurt OR

2) they're sticking out and it'll make putting the denture in more difficult because there will be an undercut the denture can't wrap around on and that'll make them loose.

That would be my guess.
