Does gum come down to margin after crown lengthening?

I had crown lengthening done on molar number 3 and instead of just doing the mesial lingual so my dentist could get a clear impression here, he removed a lot of gum and bone all around the tooth so it wouldn't be lopsided he said and five weeks later I still have a 1/4 inch of exposed tooth root on the tongue side and a little over 1/8 of an inch lip side.  I don't like having all this exposed tooth and a big hole between 2 and 3 that collects food.  The biscuspid in front of 3, no. 2, also had the gum shrink so 1/16 of an inch of root is exposed.  Will my gum ever come down to the margin of the temporary, or will I have to get a very long crown?  I'm really disappointed.  The pain was awful and lasted weeks and cost over $1,000, and had to pay extra for a $40 surgical pack which consisted of 5 little gauze pads and a plastic baggie with styrofoam to put in the freezer to get cold.  I could have used a bag of frozen peas.  I didn't get an implant because I have metal allergies and worried about a reaction to the aluminum in the titanium implants.  Now with all this bone removed I wonder if I could ever get an implant with maybe zirconia?
