Hello,
I'm writing because I am very concerned with a recent retreatment I had on a tooth that had a root canal done several years ago. I was in NO pain, however, the dentist noticed in an ex-ray that retreatment was necessary.
I was very hesitant, since like I said, I had no pain, and my previous dentist never recommended retreatment for this tooth. I finally decided to have the procedure done. After an hour and a half, the endodontist told me that I would need to return for another retreatment, because an instrument must have broken during my initial root canal, which was blocking the root, therefore he was having trouble bi-passing the area in order to seal it up. Two days later, I'm in more pain than ever! I will be returning in a couple of days to see if he can bi-pass the instrument. If not, he said that extraction of the tooth, or a bridge might be necessary.
I'm wondering what my rights are as a patient. This whole thing is not only painful and costly, but it all could have been avoided had the initial doctor that performed the root canal been a bit more careful. How often does this type of thing happen, and is this a normal risk of having a root canal done. I'm just so upset. Please help!
