Extreme pain following temporary crown

by kris1822, Jun 28, 2009 11:00AM
I had a temporary crown placed a week ago in upper R jaw, and was fine except for minor pain at crown site which I expected, but within two days I developed extreme pain with cold, and attempts to touch area with toothbrush brought excrutiating pain over entire R side of face extending into ear and lower jaw and causing headache. Pain remained very severe for about 1/2 hour and then calms to moderate aching at jaw connection, No pain at crown or with biting down. Returned to doc yesterday and he replaced crown with new temporary and realigned. Bite is better, but after about 8 hours all symptoms have returned with a vengance.  Anbesol and tylenol are no longer helping. Feels like a nerve thing as main area of pain is lower front of jaw and at hinge of jaw when temp is in upper right jaw. Any suggestions or thoughts??

if there is no pulpal pathology involved, common culprit of your pain is occlusal interference induced by new restoration. If your restorative dentist can not resolve your pain, you may need to see an occlusionist, prosthodontist, or endodontist.

General Suggestions
Gravity boots or yoga are better than a chiropracter for putting your spine back inline if thats the problem.  An aspirin sized amount of calcium powder rubbed on the gums will provide very rapid pain control.  Too much at one time will give you headache.  Rinse mouth with warm water with teaspoon salt in it or clean seawater if you can get it.  Oregano tea either cold or hot can take of infection.  Oregano oil is also available.  Chose this before taking antibiotics.  Place a teaspoon of virgin coconut oil in mouth and swish it around as long as possible also good for dental problems, called oil pulling

Don't pull your teeth out or you'll be more sorry.  Abcesses can be relieved with determination.  Blend half a small onion with one stick of celery in a cup of water. Drink slowly, swish around in mouth.  Stop eating and drink fresh green vegetable juices. Eat fresh green cabbage just by itself, and use as wrapper for other greens.
