Face itching above extraction point a month afterwards.

A month ago I had a molar extracted from upper jaw, left hand side (required a root canal but couldn't afford that, so had to go with the extraction.)  Easiest and quickest extraction ever.  Got pain meds, but hardly had to use any of it.

The past few days, i've had a dull ache in the area the tooth used to be.  From what I can see the flesh has healed nicely.  Feels smooth, and no pain when eating or brushing in that area.

This morning, around 5am, my face got incredibly itchy, a warm, tingly itchyness around the area the tooth had been extracted.  Not inside the mouth mind you, but on the surface of the skin outside, though it felt like it was under the skin.  The itchyness migrated to the corner of my lips and up to my eye, but primarily above the extraction point.

I've read that the nerve healing could cause this tingling, but I've also read that it could be due to other issues.  I'm not experiencing any problems with the teeth on either side of the extraction point, nor did the dentist note any issues with them on the xrays.

Ive taken ibuprofen, but it's not doing anything for the itching.

Any ideas what this could be?  I'm trying to get an appointment with the dentist again for another tooth to be filled, and will inquire from him when I do as well, but is there anything I can do right now to alleviate this itchy sensation?

It sure could be sinus related.  The roots from upper molars are very close to the sinus.   Let's hope the Benadryl works and gives you some relief.

GOOD LUCK and do let us know how you do!

My very best to you,

I'm have no allergies that I'm aware of, and I'm wondering if it could be sinus related, though I've not issues with that either.

There has been a dull ache in my jaw where the tooth was extracted, but also in my left temple and just under my eye.  The tingly, warm sensation is also affecting my left ear and the area around my eye...so I'm starting to think it could be more sinus related.

Have an appointment Monday with the dentist.  Will ask him to check a few things while I'm getting a filling.

I'm going to get some benadryl as well and see what that does.

Hi,
Is it possible that you have allergies?  It would be very hard for your tooth to affect the skin on the outside if your mouth esp. after all this time.  Not impossible, but improbable.

It is a good idea to have it checked by your dentist on the off chance there is an infection brewing in a nearby tooth, the bone, or your sinus.

I do hope you can get some relief from the itch.  An antihistamine like Benadryl may help with that.

GOOD LUCK.  Please let us know what your dentist says.
Best to you,
Gellia
