Face numb after removal of wisdom teeth

I have my wisdom teeth at the right side of my lower jaw removed last week. My dentist told me before that the teeth is very near to the nerve. After the surgery, he claim it was successful and he did saw my nerve without damaging it.

After the surgery, everything seem alright, just swelling on my face.  However, 5 days later, I seems part of my face become numb which was normal before. And the numb remains for a few days already.

What would be the cause? Is that due to damage of my nerve?

Post op inflammation , edema, infection, may be contributing factors.

Thanks for your advice, scottma
Yes, this is my lower right chin and the skin just below my lip.
Anyhow, I have mu sensation back to normal on the next day of the surgery. Why the sensation losed again a few days later? I don't think I have done anything that could be able to damage my nerve deep inside.

Assuming you are referring to lower right chin and/or lip is numb, which is associated with post op edema or surgical trauma. Most nerve injuries tend to recover within 6 weeks to 12 weeks , if there was no gross surgical trauma occurring during surgical procedure. However, corticosteroid ,anticonvulsant, antidepressant, nutritional supplement such as vitamin B1,B6, B12, folic acid , and omega-3 fatty acid may help resume normal function.
