Gingivitis ( gum disease)

Hi.. I went for my regular dental check up in Toronto (Family Tree Dental) and I was shocked to hear from my dentist that I have Gingivitis ( gum disease), but I never experienced any pain or bleeding  How can this be detected at earlier stage?

You should start flossing, and I suggest a water pic using mouthwash and alternate with salt regularly (once twice a day). Also, a good idea is to swish mouthwash when you use the washroom, I swish the mouthwash and keep doing it until all the sting is out of it and it is like swishing water, before you spit it out. Happy mouth-care. The good news is your gum problem is easily fixed, The price of a waterpic is a really good investment. as is going over the to with mouthwash. It really blows to have your gums recede and lose your teeth, so good luck with your new routine. It will be worth the effort when you're older. Dentures fall out all the time, for many. Imagine that if you start to make excuses on cutting corners on your new plan of action.

Good luck with it.

I would say as a dental hygienist at least 90% of my patient have some for of gingivitis or periodontal disease. Gingivitis is classified as any inflammation of the gingiva (gums) redness, bleeding, swollen margins, with little or no bone loss. Gingivitis  can be reversed with proper home care and yes by home care I mean flossing. I can not begin to stress enough how important flossing is and how  rarely it is done by patients. With 2 works of emaculate home care brushing for 2 min 2-3x a day and flossing gingivitis can be reversed. If left untreated it can lead to periodontal disease (loss of bone and surrounding tissue). Chronic gingivitis does not always hurt the more acute form is normally what causes gum pain. As for bleeding do your gums bleed when you floss? And do you floss?
