Gold Inlay vs Gold Crown

by Stinger3, Jun 17, 2009 12:06PM
I am going to the dentist tomorrow. I have all my wisdom teeth out. The dentist wants to put a gold crown (I prefer gold) on tooth #30. It has a large filling now which extends over the back edge. The sides are good as is the front of the tooth, but below the back of the existing filling between #30 & 31 a cavity has formed at the gum line just entering the dentin. Tooth #31 is now a gold crown. Am I better to have a new gold crown or a gold inlay for tooth #30?
Thanks

i would get the crown. if the filling is large even though it is just on top the force of chewing can still cause cracks. the crown would provide extra protection.
