Gum Surgery

I am 28 yrs old & have been seeing a periodontist for about 4 years because of my generalized periodontal disease. He thinks my disease started during adolesence. He's been doing the regular deep scaling and cleanings, but now feels that I need to begin to consider surgery because he's not seeing enough positive results. I am not entirely comfortable with the idea. I've heard horror stories about gum surgery, including that your teeth look worse after. I was told by another periodontist that I am not a good candidate for laser gum surgery. I read about different natural remedies that promise to "cure" gum disease, but don't know if I can trust their claims. I love my teeth & want to keep them. Any suggestions? Thanks-Angie
