Gum swollen and x-ray showing nothing wrong with teeth?

I have multiple roots, I have lost one tooth because a dentist failed to see a double root. They extracted it and showed it to me. I had lived with the abcess (abscess) for one year. Aonther time a different dentist realised that I had more roots than anticipated, I was left with my mouth clamed open for 3 hours while he checked other patients inbetween. My present dentist discovered multiple roots on an eye tooth (the fang ones) it took a while to cure, but he saved the tooth. So this time I thought I had another abcess (abscess)- so painful, gum all swollen, teeth had risen, sensitive to hot and cold and food. All on one side.
The dentist took the xrays- no abcess (abscess). He said I had cloudy sinuses to see my doctor. I nearly hit the roof when the doctor  put the auriscope in my ear. I thought that I had an infection in my parotid gland, my throat felt like I'd had a tonsillectomy. The doctor said he didn't think I needed an antibiotic, that it was something else, but couldn't be sure so gave me the antibiotic for the cloudy sinus. The gum went down, then blew up again-so painful. I though it must be an abcess (abscess), I went back to the dentist, he said he is sure that it is a bad case of cankers, probably triggered by stress-
So painful.  I couldn't work out how it came and went and put it down to painkillers.

I am going through something similar right now. Did they ever find out what was wrong?
