It sounds like you could possibly have developed dry sockets. You definitely need to call your dentist ASAP! I developed a dry socket from a molar extraction back in June and the pain is EXCRUCIATING!!
I am still having mild to moderate pain and discomfort due to the lengthy healing process of a dry socket in my particular case.
im confused, if you are seriously in that much pain what are you doing asking on a website instead of seeing your dds? you need to call today, that much pain isnt in the "NORM".
im going to the dentist at 3 today, but to tell u the truth i think he is odd. that would be why im on this website. Im looking to see if maybe i can talk to some people to keep from loosing my mind while i wait.
I hope that by now you have found out the cause of such horrible pain. If you are not satisfied with your dentist perhaps you should see someone else. It never hurts to get a second opinion. In my case, I saw three dentists. I know how bad dry socket pain can be as I was also in the same situation and had to take some heavy duty pain killers off and on which I did not want to do, however, that is alot of pain medication you were (are?) taking.
I know exactly what you mean about losing your mind being in pain. There have been times when I thought I would lose mine. I still do from time to time since I cannot get this dry socket issued to resolve although my dentist all tell me that it is healing and in fact it is almost closed but that the sensitivity will last quite a while.
I feel so much better now. I had dry socket and food particles growing bacteria in the socket. o wow did it hurt when they irrigated it. they packed it with some nasty smellin/tasting stuff but o wow it feels so much better.
ya they will they changed it yesterday and the will change it again today. They gave me an irrigation syringe but i cant use it until they take the packing out. i hope he takes it all out this time last time he left it in for about a month and it got infected and o wow i had stinky breath, then i found it in my mouth and pulled it out it felt instantly better.
Good thing your dry socket is now being treated. I have never heard about packing being left in for a month. Personally, I would find another dentist if this is the case. I have never heard of packing being left in for a month. It is usually changed every other day or so.
Good luck
He left it in on accidet. i really dont have another choice right now. i go back in today hopefully he takes it out for good. i talked to him about when i yawn and move my tongue the wrong way and it feels like i put my tongue into a light socket and he said i probably messed up a nerve it should be better in 6 to 12 months. i was like Sh*t
Once the dentist takes out the packing for good you may have alot of pain. I was packed four times in about a ten day period. When he took the final packing out (he said it needed to heal and packing prolongs the healing) the pain was excruciating at times. During those times I took pain meds such as Advil, Motrin and a prescription for Vicodin which I tried to take only when the pain was very bad. Now it is three months later and I am just now beginning to feel better and you will feel better too. Maybe it will not take that long for you. I am not a smoker but if you are a smoker, this will definitely not help matters.
From what I have been told by others who have experienced severe dry sockets, it can take many months to heal which evidently this is what I am going though. My son-in-law had two dry sockets last year and it took him about six months to fully heal and you will eventually heal. Nothing to look forward to believe me!! But I have been told it seems like it will never end but it will get better. Someone on this web site told me that usually dry sockets ache until they fully close and I believe this is my case. Mine is nearly closed and hopefully in the next month or so it will be much, much better.

Hope your situation will improve soon.
