Heat sensitivity and sensation after root cancal

Hi,

I had 2 teeth (#21 and #22) RC 6 months ago, and now with temp crowns on.  During the past 6 months observation period, I still have some sensation on those 2 teeth. I asked the dentist, he always told me that because my teeth were badly hurt (both are endo re-treated), so I’ll feel something sometimes because the surrounding gum/bone is damaged.  And I also feel some heat sensitivity (i.e. hot soup/drink).  Although it’s not very painful, I can still feel the strange sensation.  What should I do?  What would be the possible cause?  Do I need re-endo again?

I had x-rays not long after some of the teeth being filled and some still in treatment.   At the time, the x-rays seem to be ok (I already had some pain/discomfort at the time).  But it's been awhile since I took the x-rays.  Most of my teeth are re-treat, it's been over a year since my old crowns had been removed.  It's a very long process, and I still can't see the end of it.

Yes, it could be the surrounding area that causing the pain. I really am sorry that you're having to go through all of this. Having extensive dental work is no fun at all. Your dentist does really need to check for infection. It usually shows up on xrays though, which I take it you've already had? But, what about since all this pain started? An infection can cause awful pain.

I have other teeth doing RC (re-endo), some of them still have pain and haven't been filled.  One of the tooth is in RC for months, but the end/tip of the root still has pain every time the dentist touches it (I'm using microscope, the dentist said the root looks clean, but I still have pain.  Maybe there's infection at the surrounding area?)  I'm waiting for all the endo to be done to do the permanent crowns.  I have a lot of tooth problem and have done a lot of RC/endo, so the condition of my teeth is not very good.  Could this be the cause that I still have pain/discomfort after the endo treatment?

Do you know why they have'nt placed the permanent crown yet? That may have something to do with the pain.

One of the teeth was treated under microscope; it shouldn’t have any nerve left, right?  Right after the endo treatment, I had some pain that radiate to my nose, face and head; it calms down after a few months, but I still feel some sensation and heat sensitivity.  Once a while, I will feel full/swollen/numb feeling on my upper lip, but I’m not sure if it’s related to these 2 teeth.  I’m thinking maybe extraction is the only way to resolve all the problems completely.

Sometimes during a root canal a piece of the nerve can be left. Did he do and xrays after the procedure to make sure your teeth were all clear? I would also recommend a sensitive tooth paste. It really helps with the heat sensitivity.
