Help!! 17 extractions and same day dentures

I am getting ready to have 17 extractions done on the same day and have Afordable Dentures put a full set of dentures in.  Is it safe to have that many teeth taken out at the same time??  Will I be able to function the next day??  When do you think I can return to work??  Okay Yes I am freaking out, I am not normally like this and am wondering if I should ask regular MD for some sort of medication to take right before the procedure to relax me (they will only use novicane to numb before extractions).  Anyone that has advice please chime in!!  I have spent so much money on my teeth and they are getting worse and worse, I am tired of absesses, pain, expense.  Any advice would be appreciated.

please google "affordable denture complaints" before going thru with this. i know people who purchased dentures with them and none of them have been happy with the care or quality. there are lots of low cost dental mills  out there with inferior products.  this is one of the cases where you get what you pay for. its better to go with an established local practice instead of one whos primary dentists end up being new and/or foreign who buys dentures in bulk instead of having a lab that makes each one to order.

It appears that you are going to have immediate denture, full upper, full lower, or both. Multiple extraction at one vist may be o.k., however, certain factors need to be taken into account. First, your medical condition is critically important. Second, dental status. if most of these hopeless teeth are seveerely mobile or short retaind roots, tissue trauma may not be significant. Consultation with your oral surgeon regarding post-op complication is advised.
Immediate full denture is generally pain in the neck for both dentist and patients. However, if the clinician is competent enough, you can still have acceptable denture.Multiple reling of denture base is expected. Final denture is generally fabricated 6months to 12 months later on.

"Is it safe to have that many teeth taken out at the same time??"
If you are medically healthy, yes.  Although read below.

"Will I be able to function the next day?? "
With soft foods and liquids only.  It may take several months before you can adequetly eat hard foods like steak and chicken.  Its a learning experience and you need to retrain your muscles.

"When do you think I can return to work??"
Depends on what you do.  Next day as long as you avoid heavy lifting or any kind of exercise.

However, places like affordable dentures is a horrible place, for dentist and patient.  The dentists are pushed to increase production and the patients are not the focus.  The BEST way to do immediate dentures like you are getting is have the posterior teeth removed first, let that heal, and THEN make the denture before removing the front teeth.  Removing all 17 at once is not a good idea as your denture will never be stable.

Find a dental school near you.  They can usually beat affordable denture's price and give you much better quality of care.  Your reline (which you will need in 6 months) is also included.

As Lynn mentioned, dental mills are disasters waiting to happen and you will never be happy with their work.

Hi I have had dentures for 50 years and I had 15 teeth pulled and the plates set right in.
I have not been sorry for this as I had less trouble getting use to them then alot of people who waited after extractions.   I know of ten people who can't wear the bottoms because they waited.   \Other then a few sore spots I have been happy with the success.
Good luck to you you will be happy in a few months and not waiting to get them in.

I don't know, I'm a client of "Affordable Dentures" in Spokane, Washington and so far I've been pretty happy with them. They even had an on-site lab and make each denture custom-made for every patient. The staff and Dentist treat me with dignity and respect and even remember my name without having to look up my file or being told. My Mom tells me that she wishes she'd gone to them too as she's been having so much trouble with her dentures. She never got an immediate and her dentures just never have fit right and she has to use a ton of goo to get them to stay in. I know I'm not done healing yet and the swelling will go down but so far I haven't had to use any of the adhesives at all, the dentures stay in and in place pretty well without them. I hope they still will when I'm all healed up and have my new, permanent ones made. Good luck to you all who are going through this! What a life-changing event!

Went back to a same day denture place in greensboro nc called A step above dentures, they said they can do a partial on the bottom and a full set on top that will be 9 extractions instead of 17, that is a little better.  Its amazing the different opinions from 3 different dentists I went to see.  But they all agreed the top needs to have a full denture.
My only problem now is I have a new job I am gettting ready to start, how long will I feel miserable with 7 extractions and new dentures put in??  Anyone have a clue, Maybe I can put off my start date do you think that will be necessary??
thanks for all your help!!

my father had full dentures both upper and lower and he is very happy with them. he got all his teeth extracted at one time. the upper denture is fixed but thelower one isnt because the dentist said that the shape of his mouth would completely change if he attached that one too..

he loves his dentures and proudly shows them around to ppl who are thinking abt dentures. he got it done in China!!

About your second post, It's always good to get a 2nd opinion.  I am about to have everything pulled at once, but instead of immediates, i'm going to wait and let it heal first (personal choice, if you want to go with immediates, Kudos, i've just been through so much dental trauma from personal neglect and an abusive dentist that i want to make sure that i dont mess something up lol)

When it comes to taking off at work, just explain to your boss what you're having done and that you might need a few days off after to get adjusted and past the pain.  Everyone i work with is very understanding to my dental issues (to the point where recently, i've had pain off and on for the past 2 weeks that on a scale from 1-10 is literally a 15) to the point where when this most recent pain hits, they tell me to go to the back of the store and take my time or even offering to give me a ride home while someone will be willing to work a double (14 hour shift) just to make sure that i'm OK.

Many work places are actually very understanding. Just explain what you're having done (even though it can be rather embarassing) and when you think you're ready to work, ask for fewer days (if it isnt a set schedule) and just make sure to have back up coverage lined up just in case.  I found that if you know that you may be in pain, and get people who are willing to help cover your shifts well ahead of time, it's much easier.

now, i know i rambled a bit, but i hope this helped with your fears of when you will be able to go back to work XD

when i got my dentures back in 2007 i also had seventeen teeeth pulled all at once with six bone graphs and i survived. i went in after i got off work, had all the work done, went home and went to bed. i did call in sick to work the next day but that was mainly because i just didn't feel like going, but i was well enough to return to work had i chose to. i would recommend letting your mouth heal for a week before you're fitted with your dentures as your gums will shrink as they heal and thus will make your dentures become loose and sloppy and you'll have to keep going back to see your dentist for alignments, unless you do it yourself. also for adhesive i like to use fixodent powder extra hold because its easy to clean at night when i take my teeth out. anyway, hope what i said was helpful and goodluck.  chris

hi,
U wont have much problem if u plan to get 17 extractions in a sitting unless n untill u r suffering with some medical ailments like hypertension etc...u can have a small dose of tranquillizers (under the supervision of ur doctor)if required right before the extractions.u might have discomfort but that wont b much with good analgesics.....all u have to do is follow the post surgical instructions given by ur dentist.....

I just had 17 extractions 3 days ago and i am in some mild discomfort. I had a immediate denture made a few Weeks before I had all my top ones removed. they just used some local numbing agents and i paid to have laughing gas and I also took a few anxiety pills before hand The only problems I am experiencing now is some sores under my dentures up at the top like i need to have them filed down so i am going to call them on monday. I have been rencing with salt water but it hurts because of the few sores i have to take them in and out. I m hoping that I am through the worst part of it. I cant wait until my holes where they pulled the teeth are gone and the taste of blood is gone as well. I have had a horrible appitite and have lost 13lbs since I had them pulled. How ever I went to same day denture not affordable dentures.

I went to several different dentist over the past 5 years trying to get them to pull all of my lower teeth and give me a full lower denture I have had a full upper denture for years. But they all just wanted to fix my teeth and give me a partial after 5 years of not having a partial that fit right and always being in pain I finally went to Afforable Dentures and they pulled out my remaining 6 teeth and placed a temporary denture in the same day. Now during the next 6 months they will adjust my temporary denture as my gums shrink once the shrinking stops they will replace the temporary denture with a permanent Denture. And so far I have a lot of respect for Affordable Dentures because they do Great work and they really care about how I feel, not to mention how much money I saved. Also you get what you pay for they have cheap dentures and they have expensive dentures I went with the Deluxe Package which was only $985.00 and my insurance paid 50% and they fit great I have had no problems at all. I highly recommend Affordable Dentures
