Help with abscessed tooth/urgent

Hi,

Hoping to get some info from anyone regarding my current problem. I have an abscessed tooth and last week I went to the dentist for the first time in years. My face was really REALLY swollen and after a CT scan I was prescribed antibiotics. I took the last one this morning after a 7 day dose and, although minimal, I still have some facial swelling. It is uncomfortable and I can feel it but it does not hurt. The dentist told me today that they are unable to help, I will need oral surgery to take the tooth out under GA. I have an appointment with another oral surgeon on Wednesday next week and will schedule an appointment for GA in the beginning of January.

Question is, will I be OK for another month with this condition?? I keep reading about serious complications and stuff about dying etc.

Any advise at all??

Hi....unless your jaw starts to swell more or you have pain you should be okay.  Increased swelling is a sign that the infection is growing and that needs medical attention right away.  Your dentist should know that if you still have swelling there is still some infection and should have put you on antibiotics until you can see the oral surgeon.  You may want to call the oral surgeon and ask about this, he can't do anything so long as there is infection and will put you on antibiotics to clear it up before removing the tooth.  By doing this you will be one step ahead and he may be able to remove the tooth during your first visit.  Just call them and let them know your concerns and go from there.  Take care.

Thanks for the advice. Some new development, yesterday while brushing/rinsing with Corsodyl I heard a big pop and out came a ton of puss, it was completely drained within an hour after that. Good news I guess?
Will see the oral surgeon in 2 days to talk about the extraction under GA.
