Hepatits C and oral surgery

Hi,
1. what tests should a dentist order prior to performing invasive, extensive Oral Surgery on a person with Hepatitis C with elevated enzyme levels?
and,
2. what potential complications should a dentist anticipate on a person with Hep C and currently on drug therapy with interferon and ribavarin? are there any limitations on what anesthetics or pain meds he can use for me? and why?

Please be SPECIFIC, and please do not tell me to call an oral surgeon...

thanks so much, this information will help me feel at ease that my dds is doing and anticipating all potential problems prior to starting oral surgery.

What sort of "invasive, extensive Oral Surgery"  are you referring to?  The more specific you are the better we can understand your question.

The main elements that need to be determined before oral surgery are if your clotting factors are at the proper levels.  Some of the tests that may be ordered are PT, PTT, INR.  Obviously universal precautions need to be taken by the dentist as with any patient.  Other than your clotting times as a concern,  it should be routine procedure and no other contraindications.   Sorry for the delay, your comments were not being posted on our staff page for some reason.
