Horizontal wisdom tooth Removed

I had a lower wisdom tooth surgically removed. It was in a horizontal position under my gum half way out of my gum. Now I am 2 days out from surgery and feel pretty good. I noticed that part of the hortizontal wisdom tooth is still present and its painful. Is that normal for a bi portion of it to still be there,its painful? Concerned
