How long after a tooth extraction before i can actually rinse out the hole?

At which point would there be nothing in the hole that i could break free other than food? When can i rinse like i used to?

I'm not sure.  It depends on how fast you heal and how extensive the surgery was.  I would say you can gently rinse about 24 hrs after the extraction.  I would imagine approximately a week would be okay as long as you're not intentionally trying to damage the area.

When can i start swishing water into the hole itself to try and get stuff out without having to worry that one of the things i will wash out is the blood clot?

I would recommend rinse gently about 24 hours after an extraction.
