I'm Having A Biopsy on Friday!

After my last root canal, the Endodontist noticed somethin unusual under the tooth next to one he performed the root canal on. He noticed this by accident after taking an xray of his work so he refered me to an Oral Surgeon who believed this to be a benign cyst. He requested old xrays from my regular dentist to see if it was there all along and apparently there was a small cyst that no one noticed and in looking at the new xray he could see that it grew slightly!

It is the size of a pea. He recommended a biopsy and removal of the cyst, even though he said it is sure it is benign. I questioned why he wants to biopsy it if he is sure it is benign and he said that based on the xray it looks benign but he wants the lab to examine it. I'm scared that he could be wrong and it is a malignancy! My mother died from Ovarian Cancer 5 months ago yesterday and I have been through so much! Do you think there is cause for me to be concerned? I'm freeking out! THANKS!

Radiographic image does provide some pathologic features of a lesion which is benign or malignant.However, definite diagnosis depends on histopathologic exam.
