I am following up from the other thread since it will no longer allow any more comments.  I thought I would start a new one.  It has been 5 days since my tonsilectomy.  It is very hard to swallow and I am pretty sore.  I haven't had any complications yet and I am healing nicely.  I am staying on top of my antibiotics and pain meds.  Would I do it again?  HELL YEAH!  I can tell the difference in my breath and taste in my mouth already with my tonsils gone.  What a relief.  I have been getting lots of rest so hopefully I'll be healed in no time.  I'll ckeck in again soon!

I have on some occasion cough up tonsil stones...  i would love to "clean" my tonsil with q-tips or something... but how do you do that? i can't see my tonsil stones... i see small bumps deep in my throat but they are flesh, i tried poking at them... but they only bled...

pls help me cause my breath can be smelled a mile away...

I'm now contemplating to remove my tonsils, how long will the recovery process take?

I always just used my finger to press on my tonsil and those white balls would just pop out.  GROSS.  I dealt with it for 19 years.  I am 31 and had my tonsils out 2 weeks ago tomorrow.  The first 3 days, the pain was not too bad, but I was immobile for the first 5. The 6th and 7th days were the worst for pain and after that the pain started to subside a little.  It still hurts to swallow and I am still on a soft food diet and still periodically taking pain meds.  It just makes swallowing more bearable.  The older you are, the longer the recovery and everyone is different of course.  I was fortunate and had no complications, but at this point, it was definitely all worth it.  No more bad breath and white pus balls.  I would do it all over again.

I have those white balls.  has anyone told you what they are?  I'm curious.  should I be concerned?  Other than the smell, they are not really bothersome.

A few days ago, I began to notice that when I swallowed, it felt like I had a pill or something stuck in my throat.. The next day my throat got really soar, so I just assumed I was getting a head cold. Then yesterday, I coughed up a hard white/yellow "thing" that resembled oatmeal. It stunk so bad, and I had never coughed anything like this up before so I was worried.. Then last night, I coughed up another one! I found this site today and luckily now I know what these disgusting things are! I was reading previous posts, and you guys seem to use qtips or your finger to get them out.. I just tried using a qtip AND my fingers but I find it hard to do cause I keep on gagging :( and they are really bothering me. I've been trying to cough them up all day but they won't come out. What should I do? How do I get these awful tonsil stones out?

my ENT said that some people have a smooth tonsil some have a craterlike tonsil meaning that there are small openings.  He said that food and blood cells can collect in these openings and start to basically rot.  I tried everything to make it go away before I got my tonsils removed.  Nothing worked.
