Intermittent pain above my teeth

by Drippin, Dec 15, 2005 12:00AM
I have intermittent pain above my back teeth on just one side.  My wisdom teeth have been removed.  There is also a tightness in my jaw when pain is present.  Sometimes it throbs at night and sometimes there is no pain.  It comes and goes during the day.  If pain is present, it is worse if I lean over to pick something up or any activity that increases blood flow to the area.  A dentist has xrayed the area and didn't see anything.  It is not sensitive to hot/cold. Any ideas on what the problem might be and what kind of medical professional should I see?

It sounds somewhat like a problem with your maxillary sinus which communicates with the upper molars and at times with second premolars. These teeth can be sensitive to biting pressure at times. If your dentist can not find anything then I would consult an ENT doctor. The other possibility is that the TMJ area may be the culprit. Then I think you should see an oral surgeon.

I had 2 molars removed 2 months ago in upper maxillary area. I still am experiencing pain in the extraction site, and the tooth in front of it). I have been back to the dentist 4 times and to my physician twice.I have even seen a ENT dr who said it might be Trigmeial Neuralgia. I was  checked by my physician for that and he said I didnt have it(no lighting pain or hot and cold sensitivity). This pain feels like a toothache and soreness in the cheek bone area. It seems to get worse later in the evening. My bite also seems to be different. My teeth are clicking against each other.I am goiing to see a Neuromuscular Dentist because I may have malocclusion. I would appreciate any imput. Thanks
