Is this dry socket??

by JOJO1971, Aug 05, 2008 02:22PM
I had my impacted wisdom tooth taken out friday 1st Aug, it was decayed and also attached to my jawbone, anyway coming up to day 5 I am experiencing the most excruciating pain and it also seems i'm getting pain from my upper molars too, I cannot sleep at night my face is swollen I have a pain in my ear and also in my throat on the side my tooth was taken from, I did not think I would get pain like this it affects my sleep, which in turn is affecting my job,and i have no tolerance with my kids too! I cannot take the pain anymore and I called the Maxillofacial unit at the hospital where the tooth was removed and the secretary said call at the end of the week as this was normal???How can this be normal? If i had known then what I know now I would have never had this done? any ideas on what this is and is it normal please?its driving me crazy and beginning to depress me?

The condition described appears to be dry socket. Administration of antibiotics is advised.
