Lidocaine allgery

by Belle1234, Feb 17, 2009 01:30PM
My husband had an endoscopy procedure just before Christmas, during which, "Hurricane spray was used. Aboout ten days after his procedure, the tetracaine still in his system. He had a seizure that resulted in an automobile accident. While in the hospital, the doctors never related the tetracaine to the seizure. He was prescribed Tegretol and Neurontin. The Neurontin, caused more seizures and a stuttering problem. After the Neorontin was out of his system, he has been seizure free, until yesterday. He had a tooth pulled. The dentist used lidocaine during the procedure. Today, he had another seizure. Could my husband be allergic to the lidocaine/tetracaine? Could this be the root of all his seizures? He has never had seizures before.

Lidocaine is actually shown to be an anti-convulsant and is used to actually stop seizures.  I don't think that the lidocaine would be the cause of a seizure. It would be best to have your husband checked out again for any possible problems that the seizure could be indicating.
