Need Second Opinion

Hello,

A little over a year ago, my dentist replaced fillings in a tooth that had, as he says, lots of decay.  Shortly following the fillings, the tooth became extremely sensitive causing pain and swelling.  When I went back to the dentist, he said I had developed an infection and needed a root canal.

After a course of antibiotics and allowing the infection to drain, the root canal was done.  The day following the root canal, my cheek once again swelled up.  I called my dentist and he said that it should subside (although it was unusual to swell following a root canal treatment).  I developed a couple sores in my gum above the tooth and I am assuming stuff drained out as the swelling went down.  Since then (a year ago) the tooth has been very sensititve, not painful.

I recently went back to my Dentist because I have been experiencing an unpleasant taste from that tooth.  He reported that there was a small infection (or mark) on the x-ray so prescribed another course of antibiotics.

Will the antibiotics completely rid of the infection?  Or will another root canal need to be done?  The dentist does not seem willing to admit that the initial root canal may have failed.

Any advice helps
