I have a tooth (small molar) next to a large molar that was extracted 10 years ago which has a bad receeding gumline.   can a crown/cap cover this?

it should not be crowned unless it needs a crown. A periodontist may be able to do a tissue graft and cover it that way. If it needs a crown, you should consult a periodontist first.
