Normal dental procedure for broken tooth...?

Normal dental procedure for broken tooth...?

Filling material failed in my#5 premolar, while eating, causing 1/3 of it (inside/above gumline) to "explode".  Months later, the remaining outer shell of the tooth had small slivers & frags breakoff, until the outer wall broke off (most of the broken tooth was above gum, but some slightly below. Up til this time, I was aware of fragments  poking neighboring teeth (4 & 6) & localized gum tissue. Went to my dentist - got xrays - he referred me to an endodontist for the root extraction. The hard frags were poking & lodging between teeth 6 & 7, 2,3 & 4, outer/inner gum/ upper arch causing a LOT of pain. I told this to the endodontist, who pulled the remaining root of #5 and didn't seem concerned about the hard frags & visible trauma & swelling in other areas. Went back to see him (not about the root extraction), about the increasing pain in other areas. He just said that he could account for the broken tooth & he didn't see anything. I couldn't believe what he was telling me. I can't even account for the entire tooth, & I'm supposed to think nothing of what looks like a 2nd row of teeth emerging inside teeth 2,3 & 4, & dismiss concerns even after retrieving a triangular, slice of tooth color frag from my outside gum above #4.  He took 2 xrays, claims he didn't see anything. A month later, I'm still retrieving tooth color frags and in a lot of pain. I won't go back to my dentist or endo-jerk & my mouth is being PLOWED by unretrievable frags. Why didn't they look into this problem, espcially when my dental history is excellent? I've no insurance & don't know what to do? Pls help

i wouldn't go back to either of them myself. any dentist who can't do a root canal shouldn't be licensed anyway. i have COPD which the treatments i take caused dry mouth which led to gingivitus. that resulted in the same problem you describe. my dentist recommended that 1st i sign up for a low cost dental plan like carington care that offers huge discounted prices on tooth repair. you can apply on line at caringtoncare.com it cost $16 a month for my wife and me total. it covers everything antway after i got it the dentist did a root canal ground the tooth down and put a crown on. as time went on i eventually had to have all my uncapped teeth pulled and 2 bridges installed  and i wound up paying a little less than 40% of his usual fee . also look into dental help from your state in these days it's very hard to find but persistance pays off. also try dental schools they offer help sometimes for free to train tommorrow's dentists with hands on practice
