Numbness after tooth implant

Numbness after tooth implant

I have a similar question regarding numbness after implant. I had the implant done on 5/19 on #29, #30 and #31. A couple days later I called my oral surgeon and told him that my left chin and lower lip are numb. He asked me to come to the office to back out the implant a millimeter or two because it might be touching a nerve. On 5/23 the oral surgeon backed out implants #31 and #29. He did tell me that he suspected that implant #29 was possibly compressing a nerve area. Today is 5/30 and the numbness has not gone. Area around tooth #28, #27 and # 26 is very numb (lower lip and chin only). Am I going to regain sensation in this area again? Is this going to be permanently numb? I am really worried. Please let me know if I should remove the implant or if it is too late now.

You should consult with your oral surgeon.  There's no way to know if it'll be permanent.  It has to be mapped (the area of numbness) and monitored to see if there's any improvement in the area.  The nevve has a timeline of about 6 months to heal.  If it doesn't fully heal by then, then it would be considered permanent.

Thank you Dr Tsang. What kind of diagnosis tool (CAT scan, MRI etc...) is the most effective for determining what's damaged and the extent of damage?

Probably a CT scan.
