OW my gums!! Stuck food?

so some background, about a year ago I got a filling between my two back teeth. The dentist who did it made it *Way* too tight and flossing was really difficult, yet necessary because food would still get stuck in there and it was uncomfortable. Well, while flossing, I managed to break the filling. Then there was a gaping hole where the missing filling was and it never hurt unless food got stuck in there. I would sometimes have to go floss mid meal in order to finish eating comfortably. All the flossing several times a day between those teeth really irritated the gums, and they got really sensitive. By the time I got it fixed (this past tuesday) the gums around those teeth looked really beat up. I was hoping that having the filling repaired would END my need to run for the floss every time I eat to avoid severe pain. And nope.. its worse. I keep flossing trying to make sure any pieces of food are removed, but no matter what, it doesn't help. On the inside, this one little spot of my gums (where it "peaks" between the teeth) is very red and painful. I wonder if there's something stuck directly under it, but if there is, I can't get it out. I've tried squirting water around the area with a syringe, and even using the dull end of a needle to try and pull anything out that might be in there. No luck. I can't even see anything that is causing it to hurt so much (and its only after I eat.. the rest of the time its fine) I'm surviving by putting clove oil on it, which the last couple days has eliminated the pain.. its now only taking the edge off :( What can I do about this? It's making eating a miserable experience.

You might have to get a referral to a periodontist (gum specialist).  I wouldn't wait.
